Historicon 2005

Below are pictures from the two different games I ran at Historicon 2005 (with a little help on Saturday afternoon from the Evil Professor Tobias Kroon). The first is Quest for La Calavera Negra de la Luna. This was run as a demo game for players unfamiliar with the rules. The second was Terror of the Metal Menace. This was amore advanced three-chapter game. Both games were full all weekend and there were also quite a few people hanging around watching (or hoping a pre-reg would not show up). Click on any of the images below to see a larger version.

Quest for La Calavera Negra

This is the jungle board set-up. Nearly all the terrain was scratch-built by me. I used this set-up for all the demo games at Historicon.

The Germans and the Cultists team up once again to get the Black Skull. It didn't matter where I put these two sides, they always managed to team up.

This poor Tong member found out the hard way that not all the encounters are something you hope to find. This was the poison dart trap. Luckily, he was fast enough to dodge it.

Bridget and a Tong Assassin (this was a new archetype being tested at Historicon) battle it out after Bridget has solved the puzzle of the markers and placed the temple of the Black Skull!

Three American GIs gang up on a Tong member who was foolish enough to get two far away from his compatriots. He paid the price in the end.

The spider bites it after catching two slugs in the eyes. Unfortunately, he rendered Bridget unconscious before he was done away with. It looks like clear sailing for the Tong now. Or does it?

This is a clear (or not so clear) shot of everyone trying to get ahold of the black skull. The Germans, Cultists, two Tong groups, and the Gargoyle are all in the vicinity and making a play to get away with La Calavera Negra!

The evil Professor Tobias Kroon being helpful? Actually, this is Norbert Brunhuber (white shirt in the middle) who took on demo duties for me on Saturday afternoon so that I could at least see some of the show.

Terror of the Metal Menace!

Chapter 1 of this adventure took place on the docks. The Metal Menace had been rampaging through the city and was now heading for the water. Our heroes (and villains) all sought information on where it had come from.

Some of our players start searching for clues. The Metal Menace continues its slow walk toward the pier. "But what does the Metal Menace do?" they all clamoured to know. They would find out before this story was over.

Chapter 2 took place on a jungle path. Our players discovered that the mastermind behind the Metal Menace lived on a remote island in the Caribbean. Now they just had to find his lair!

Island bandits attempt to slow our players down. But the Germans, always ready to try new things, leapt from the edge of the cliff to the waiting trees below. Luckily they made it. Our cultists later on, didn't fair quite so well.

Chapter 3. Hey! That warehouse looks familiar! The secret laboratory of the mastermind deep in the jungles of the island. An airstrip nearby serves as his only link to the outside world (which of course he has sworn to conquer!)

The evil mastermind has unleashed the Metal Menace on our players (it also happened to crush poor Juan guarding the door---but cheap henchmen are easy enough to find). When a cultist got a bit too close, he found out that the Metal Menace likes to teach people to fly!
